Why Visit Art Galleries? – The Real-Life Benefits

âś… Free Therapy

Staring at a painting can be surprisingly calming—cheaper than a therapist!:

Eventually I started to realize something though. A lot of the art I really enjoy functions as a way for the artist who created it to vent about something going on in their life. They were expressing emotion, passion, fear, love, heartbreak, in a way that only paint or sculpture could convey. I enjoyed it because I connected with it. Their art was not only therapeutic for them to create; but therapeutic for me to be audience to as well.

âś… Insta-Worthy

Let’s be honest, galleries make great Instagram backdrops. #ArtLover

As a gallery owner, you’d probably expect me to say, “Of course it’s worth it!” but my response is actually a little more complicated than that. The truth is, it doesn’t makes sense for every artist to show with galleries, so let’s take just a moment and look at the variables to decide whether it makes sense for you.

âś… Impress Your Friends

Drop a random art fact in conversation, and boom—you sound cultured!

So, you’ve just hung your new masterpiece and you’re having some friends around. There will, of course, be compliments galore on your impeccable taste and “the feel of the space”, but why let the ego-boosts stop there? A casual mention of these cultural tidbits will see you being fought over at the next trivia night and cement your position as “the artsy one”.

The idea of a National art gallery was first mooted in 1949, and further developed by Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and  Maulana Azad bureaucrats such as Humayun Kabir and the local art community. Vice-president Dr. S. Radhakrishnan formally inaugurated the NGMA in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and artists and art lovers of the city on 29 March 1954.  It was styled after a concept of the Central Hexagon visualised by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It was Lutyens, along with Herbert Baker, who visualized and gave shape to the new capital inDelhi. Along with buildings designed for other princely potentates like Bikaner and Hyderabad, Jaipur House girded the India Gate circle.
